Community River Ridge
Our mission here at River Ridge is to teach members of the community about the importance of being a good steward or caretaker of the environment. Through outreach, we teach basic principals of science, cultural history, team building, outdoor recreation skills and conservation with a hands-on learning approach. We reach out to children and adults through fairs, school presentations, churches, parent meetings, and other public events.

2009 has been filled with many public programs and marketing events. We have enjoyed celebrating what it means to be a community with many different types of organizations this year! Whether it's been through job fairs or special celebrations, we have spread the good word about River Ridge EE Program to people of all ages. Below is a list of places where you might have seen the River Ridge EEP staff so far this year.

Earth Fest - April 2007
Look at the River Ridge booth at Earthfest in Knoxville. If you had a chance to talk with us at the booth, thanks for stopping by! Here's Bri Payne, Program Director of the John Knox Center helping set up for our big day!
Kids had the chance to make Tennessee twisters, a fun easy project, at the River Ridge/ John Knox Center booth. Bri became a pro after making 300 of these lovely little doo dads.
Monty, the Ball Python, made an appearance at the booth and was held by over 500 people during Earth Fest. This woman took the personal challenge!
Monty coils up beneath the big paper hat to get a few moments rest.
River Ridge Director, Rachel Norris, holds Monty level for these two visitors.
Rachel helps some visitors make a pine cone bird feeder.
East Lake Academy of Fine Arts School Visit- August 2007
East Lake Academy of Fine Arts invited River Ridge staff members Rachel Norris and Dan Remiasz to visit the school to get students excited about their pre-Labor Day trip to River Ridge.
Students and teachers had the chance to gain a better appreciation for snakes by seeing and holding "Monty" the Ball Python. Many individuals challenged themselves by holding Monty and were able to then move past their extreme phobia of snakes.
Dan Remiasz, Program Coordinator for River Ridge, shows a student from East Lake Academy of Fine Arts in Chattanooga how Monty, the Ball Python can roll up into a ball.
Students look on as this ELAFA student holds a snake for the first time.
Here Dan is, sharing information about Monty with the students.
Powell Presbyterian's Community Festival- September 2007
Ed from Powell Presbytery gets over his snake phobia by holding Scarlett the Corn Snake. Way to go Ed!

The Powell Presbyterian Community Festival featured hot air balloon rides for all that wanted to participate.
